At the beginning of each semester, Society Zeta Alpha welcomes all members of the Wellesley community into our little White House on Tupelo Lane for our Open House event. We encourage anyone to attend this open event to get a better understanding of our organization, regardless of whether they are interested in joining our society or just looking to tour our space.

Specific times and dates of our teas are released at the beginning of each semester and can be found on our Facebook and Instagram pages (linked below!). You do not need to apply to ZA to come to our tea season events, all are welcome. To be eligible to apply to Zeta Alpha, you must attend at least three of our events and have spent at least one complete semester enrolled as a Wellesley student.

Tea Season FAQ

TEA QUESTIONS

Why do we host teas?

Through continuing our tradition of hosting teas, ZA will provide an avenue for building community within Wellesley as well as an opportunity to foster community between the current members of the society. We believe that introducing new members to the society will give us the ability to pass down our beloved traditions, stories, and experiences, all while adding new perspectives to ZA.

What is the goal of teaing?

The goal of the tea process is to build relationships, whether that be between teaers themselves or between members and teaers. We want to get to know you as much as possible, but we also want you to really get to know us as well. Teas are your chance to understand the diverse members within ZA and for us to understand what you may later contribute to our community.

How will teas be structured?

Teas will be held in the ZA House on 4 different days (scroll up or check our social media for specific dates!). The first hour will involve introductions and general socialization, while the remaining hour will involve small group conversations. The last tea day will be for applicants only.

How should I prepare for teas?

There’s no real preparation needed for teas, as we just want you to be yourself, to have fun, and to learn about our society!

What should I wear to teas?

Please feel free to wear whatever you feel comfortable in. You’ll find our members in a range of clothing (from sweatpants to button-down shirts), as we make comfort our priority.

Do we have to read the books for each theme?

You most definitely do not need to read the books. We use books as our themes in order to foster the literary history of our society as well as to guide some of the content of our teas.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

When will applications be sent out?

Applications will be sent out over email sometime after the second tea on TBD.

What would make me eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply to Zeta Alpha, you must attend at least three of our events and have spent at least one complete semester enrolled as a Wellesley student.

What if I can only attend half of a tea?

We understand that the structure of classes and life right now can be unpredictable, making it so that our tea times may not work with everyone. We require you to attend at least 3 events to apply, but if you can only make half a tea on one day and a half on another, we can still consider that as 1 full tea. As long as you try your best to meet the requirement, we will understand your commitment to applying to ZA.

Do I have to have a certain major to apply?

No, you can be any major to apply.

Will my participation in Experiences in ZA affect my application?

No, what you share in Experiences in ZA is confidential and will not affect your application. This event is for you to understand how members from different backgrounds experience ZA and for us to answer any questions you may have around experiencing ZA from your background.

OTHER QUESTIONS

How do I learn more about ZA?

Visit @societyzetaalpha on Instagram for updates on ZA happenings! In addition, feel free to ask any member questions during teas – that’s what we’re here for!

Can I follow ZA members on Instagram?

You can follow members on Instagram if you want to know more about them during the teaing process, but remember that members accept or deny at their own discretion.

How do I find out about the financial details of being in ZA? (ex: dues)

ZA is completely self-financed. We do not receive any SOFC funding and are reliant on semesterly dues to fund our programming. We have a recommended dues total of $200 a semester for regular members and $230 for our new members (to accommodate for ZA sweatshirt costs). However, we would like to emphasise that this is recommended. We recognize that this amount is not possible for all members of our community, and therefore follow a “pay what you can” financial system. We expect that all members of our community are considerate of their personal financial situation, and pay what is viable for themselves. Please know that the ability to pay dues will never affect your application nor standing in the society. Any questions about the financials of joining ZA should be directed to our treasurer, Mei, at eb119@wellesley.edu.

Can we re-tea ZA?

Yes, we always encourage people to re-tea, as we commonly accept re-teaers into our society.
